I suddenly felt so alone in the big house, despite the fact there were six others there, but they were all preoccupied and I felt slightly uncomfortable. I went over to the grand piano and sat on the stool, just looking at the ivory keys. I'd always wanted to play the piano, but thus far I could only play "chopsticks" I could vaguely hear my favourite song in my head, the sound distorted because I hadn't heard it since I'd been human, a time that seemed so long ago. I found my i-pod and put one of the earphones in. I listened to the beautiful melody of the soft piano, and I felt my hands tracing over the keys I knew she was using. It felt odd. I'd known from my music lessons what the keys were and what sound they'd made, but my human brain had never really been able to connect the written notes to the ones on the keys. Now, however, I could feel the music, I could tell exactly what I needed to do, and I put my i-pod down. This time, my fingers pressed softly on the keys, and I was playing the melody. I knew the song word perfect, and as I sang the first line, I was shocked at the beauty of the voice that poured like honey from my mouth. I'd always considered myself a good singer, but this was something else. I felt so free as the music crescendoed, and my voice rose with it. As my fingers traced the final, tinkling notes I realised I was not alone.
"I think I have a rival." said Edward from the doorway. " And I'm surprised to say I've never heard that song before."
"I don't know many people who have." I admitted, "but it's one of my favourites."
"If the original sounds anything like that then I'm hardly surprised. It sounded like it meant a lot to you." I smiled a little,
"It does." though he couldn't begin to understand quite how much.
"What's it called?" He asked
"Samson."

I barely had time to get off the back of the bike on Monday morning when Ashley was by my side.
"Hi!" she said to Seth before turning to me and asking, "So how was your weekend?"
"Alright," I replied, and kissed Seth lightly, "See you later."
"See ya." he replied as he kicked the bike back to life and sped out of the lot.
"So you made a quick conquest." said Ashley, it was clear that she had been bursting to ask me about it since I'd arrived. "How long have you been here?"
"Dunno, a few weeks." I said vaguely, though it had been less than that.
"Wow. He's from the Rez right?"
"Yeah, he's a Junior." I said absently, saying what I knew she wanted.
"Nice." said Ashley, as we went over to the rest of the gang. Everyone looking pretty much as they had when I'd left on Friday. Liz quietly peaceful, Simon awestruck, and Ella glaring.
"Nice weekend?" she said, evidently hoping I would reply the negative,
"Great thanks," I said cheerily, "me and Seth went down to La Push for a picnic." This was true, although he did the picnicing. She rolled her eyes and stormed off.
"What is her problem?" I asked generally, Liz replied,
"Don't worry, she's just jealous. She's been the most fancied girl since forever, now you've come it's taken away her limelight. I'm pretty glad to be honest, she was getting a little bigheaded." I was amazed at the matter of fact tone in which she said it. No hint of bitchiness. I was beginning to really like Liz.
"What do you have now?" Ashley asked,
"French." I said.
"Too bad! See you at break." She and Simon headed off in the opposite direction as I made my way to French.

French, then English went by, and as I was walking to the cafeteria with Ashley at my side I was hit by the worst thirst I had yet experienced. My throat burned like fire and I only just managed to say,
"Bathroom." to Ashley before I ran as fast as it was plausible for a human to run, away from the smell. I locked myself in one of the bathroom cubicles and took a few breaths. The air in here was untainted. For a few minutes I sat and pondered what the smell was that could have made me so thirsty, and wondered if it was safe to go outside again. I decided I would check, and if it was too much I would call Alice and have her pick me up. I stuck my head around the door and breathed in ever so slightly. The smell was still lingering, but not as strong as before. I walked towards the cafeteria, breathing as shallowly as possible, and sat down with the others.
"Hey." said Ashley, who didn't seem to have noticed much wrong.
"Hey." I said and swung my bag onto the floor. The previous conversation was resumed, and I talked with them for a while before something else caught my attention. One of the Junior girls was walking past with her friend, and as they drew closer, that mouthwatering smell grew stronger, and my throat burned again.
"..I know, Kristen nearly feinted, but then again, she hates blood. I can't say I enjoyed it either, but it's still useful to know your type." Of course, they were blood typing today. As another Junior walked by, I decided I wasn't going to risk it.
"I don't feel to good guys, I think I'll go to nurse." I had a couple of sighs of sympathy before I walked out, already dialling Alice's number.
"Hey, it's me, the Juniors are blood typing. Can you pick me up?"
"Be in there in five." was the reply, and I went and sat in the lot to wait for Alice.

When she pulled up Alice looked surprisingly chipper.
"I'm pretty glad you're off actually," she said as I climbed in the front, "I want to try something, and I can never find you minus Seth any more."
"What do you wanna do?' I asked.
"Well, thus far we only really know the basis of your power. We figued a little honing might be necessary. I want to see if you can get this harnessing thing down. I'd like to see Edward's face when you can read his mind." I thought about that for a second. On the one hand, honing my power seemed like a great idea. quite apart from Edward I wanted to see how Jane would react to her own torture. But on the other I just wanted to stay where I was. The idea of how powerful I could be scared me. I didn't want to have the means of hurting anyone more than I was already going to, or finding out exactly what they would feel when I'd gone.

When we arrived home everyone was assembled in the living room.
"OK, no pressure then." I said as all eyes turned to me.
"Not at all." said Edward, "Are you ready?"
"I guess." I replied, I bit my bottom lip, something I'd done frequently as a human.
"All I'm going to do is try to read your mind. You already know how to block me, but this time I want you to try to turn it around and read my mind back."
"Sounds like a walk in the park." I said, attempting bravado.
"And in three, two, one..." I felt that bug again and readied myself to flick it away, but this time, instead of merely flicking it, I prised it from the sides of my brain and held it in mid air.
"Very good," said Edward, "You've blocked me, but can you turn it around?"
I concentrated all my efforts into moving the bug, I felt around it and let go for a split second. It didn't move, this was good, I envisaged what I wanted, the bug going back into Edward's head, and I felt the bug scuttling through the air towards Edward. Then I heard something, quiet at first, then growing louder, and there was a picture in my mind. It was me. The voice said, "Anna?"
I smiled, "Gotcha."

After trying out my new skills on Jasper and Bella, I was, for the first time since becoming a vampire, exhausted. Bella told me it would get easier as I did it more, which I hoped was the truth. Emmett suggested giong on a hunt, and I was keen on the idea, it would revitalise me, and give me something to do before Seth got off his running shift. So Emmett, Rosalie, Bella, Renesmee and I set off across the river. However, as we returned through the forest, a horribly familiar scent filled my nostrils. We all stopped.
"Felix." said Bella, and I fought not to show the dread I felt. Emmett was quick off the mark,
"Bella, take Nessie home. Rose, Anna and I will follow the scent."
"But.." Bella tried to argue,
"Just take her home. We can handle it."
"Are you sure?" Bella asked me, I half-smiled,
"Whoever this Felix guy is, I'm sure I can handle it." As she sped off towards the house, and we followed the scent, I almost hoped I would meet Felix. We ran for nearly an hour, but the scent didn't disappear. Finally, Emmett stopped and turned to me,
"Go back, Anna. We'll carry on, you tell the others where we are. They'll worry otherwise."
"On it." I said and darted back down the mountain side we had been climbing.
