Part Four.
The journey seemed short, and surprisingly easy. I had run to the airport through the forest, and there I had come across a herd of deer. A thought struck me, what it Vampires could feed off animal blood too? I listened to the sound of their hearts, and heard once again that wet sound that made my throat burn. They didn't smell as good as Rebecca had, but I sensed they would sooth the ache in my throat. And they did. After draining two large males, I felt, not satisfied, but pacified. So when I entered the airport, the smell of all those humans didn't bother me as much. I was careful to change my lenses every three hours on the plane. I feined sleep for most of the journey, so the air hostesses wouldn't bother me. By the time the plane had landed in Seattle, I was thirsty again. I held my breath as much as possible, and resolved to find more deer before arriving in Forks. As I ran through the forest, I felt almost exhilerated. I'd never been much of a runner when I was human, but this was brilliant. I felt strong and in control, I tried not to think about what the Cullens might be like. But I thought the best way to succeed would be to make friends with them, if they were enemies of the Volturi, they were probably good people. I didn't want to take to many chances though, so when I recognised the scent of a Vampire, I slowed. Then another smell wafted towards me. It was less apetizing than the scent of humans, but better than the deer. I followed the scent, and emeged into a clearing. My new, sharp eyes immediatly found what I was looking for. A huge cat sat in a tree about 10 metres away from me. It was watching me warily. I sprang. It tried to fight me off, but its claws had no effect on my marble skin. I soon overpowered it and the ache in my throat receeded. I looked down and saw that though my skin was unharmed, my clothes had suffered a good deal. I looked into my bag and found that I had another set of clothes. I changed and tried to find that Vampire scent again. After a while I found it and began to follow it. I had not been running very long when I felt something. It was like there was a little creature in my brain, scuttling around. I shook my head, but nothing happened. Then I concentrated hard, and mentally flicked the bug away. It disappeared, and I continued. Soon I found myself by a river, I followed it until I came to a huge white house. The scent here was very strong. There was no doubt in my mind that I had found them. The Cullens. I had my story straight, but I was terrified as I approached the house and knocked three times on the front door.
It was opened by a breathtakingly beautiful woman, with deep golden eyes and long dark hair,
"Hello." She said, "We've been expecting you, come in."
Was she Alice? Did she know my mission? Would I ever see my son again? But then she smiled at me, and I guessed they must have caught my scent as I had caught theirs. I stepped over the threshold, into a surprisingly light room. the back wall was a huge window, light streamed in onto ten people gathered around the room.
Eight of them were obviously vampires, with pale white skin, all beautiful, but the one that caught me eye was the little girl. She must have been about eight years old, but exquisite, with deep chocolate brown eyes and bronze ringlets hanging to her waist. I would have guessed she was a vampire if I couldn't hear the flutter of her heart and the pumping of her blood, felt the warmth from her. She was just like my own child. My heart twinged as I looked at her, thinking about him. She looked back at me, her dark eyes curious. Then, she walked up to me, calm and sure and said, "Hello, I'm Renesmee, who are you?"
I instantly recognised the name, this was the girl must kidnap, take away from her family. A wave of remorse swept over me as I looked at her angelic face, but replied, "I'm Anna."
"Hello Anna. Shall I introduce you to my family?" I smiled, she was adorable.
"Alright then." She took my hand and led me to where all the others were assembled. She pointed to the woman who had let me in and said, "This is my momma, Bella. And my Daddy, Edward." She gestured to the man standing next to Bella, he was looking at me with interest. I wondered why.
"This is Auntie Rosalie and Uncle Emmett. Uncle Emmett likes to make jokes sometimes." The tall, dark man chuckled deeply, and the woman standing next to him smiled fondly at Renesmee. She was stunningly beautiful, even in the vampire world I'd never seen anyone as beautiful.
"This is Auntie Alice and Uncle Jasper." The woman, Alice, was small and dark, but she smiled widely at me. However, the man, Jasper, looked wary.
"This is My grand-daddy Carlise, and Grandma Esme." I grinned as I looked at them both, obviously too young to be grandparents. They smiled warmly back at me.
"And this is my Jacob." Said Renesmee, proudly. I looked at the man standing amongst the vampire family and was confused. I could see he was human, and I could hear his heart beating under his russet skin. But there was none of the temptation that other humans provided. His smell was not dissimilar to the smell of the deer, but it was less apetizing still. He looked at me in the same way that Jasper did, as though frightened I would strike at any moment. Sensing my confusion, Edward stepped forward,
"Jacob is a shape-shifter. He can transform into a wolf. He and his pack protect the surrounding area from vampire attack."
"Um, ok?" I replied, confused, "So how come you..?"
"Oh, yes, I forgot to mention. We are slightly different from other vampires you will have met, we think of ourselves as vegetarian. We only drink animal blood."
Jacob cut in, "And if you want to hunt, you'll go outside the boundary line please, the Cullens will show you where,"
"Wait." I said, "There's no need for that. I'll hunt with the Cullens if they don't mind."
"But, your eyes.."
"Oh, have my contacts gone again? Shoot. But what do my eyes have to do with anything?"
"They're red. If you're vegetarian, your eyes should be gold."
Edward interceed again, "She's a newborn, Jacob, surely you've noticed?"
"A newborn?" He grabbed Renesmee and pulled her behind him.
"What?" I asked, confused again.
"Have you never come across other vampires before?" Jasper asked
"No," I replied, time to tell my story, "I was bitten, but then just left in the forest. When I woke up I had no idea what was happening. I came across some hikers and I felt this, burnng in my throat, like I was dehydrated. I wanted to... but I couldn't bring myself... In the end I found a mountain lion, up in the forest. then I found your scent, and I followed it."
"Oh, my dear.." cried Esme, she ran to me and put her arms around me. I responded. I should have felt victorious, elated. I'd found my way in, easier than I'd expected, but I couldn't feel happy when I knew that I would soon betray them. Their trust. I would take away that precious child to save myself. Not just my self. My son. I couldn't forget that, I was doing this for him, too.
