the only thing that confused me was that there was blood spatter on the snow where he got shot in the head, then there was no disturbed snow or anything where he should have fell and no tracks... maybe he just fell into a hole and the snow collapsed in around it =)

I think that after he got shot in the head .. he somehow climbed a tree and watched them from above, hence the reason of the bird's eye view camera shot of Paulie and Chrissy when they are asking where the fuck he is ... lol but thats just what i think ...

I thought about the tree thing too as soon as they showed the bird's eye view and i immediately thought that someone's head would suddenly get hit with a drop of blood. However, it could have gone many different ways thats the beauty of the sopranos so many different scenes and characters that are left up to the viewer's disgression. I think Paulie just wanted to get out of there and that was why he was so sure that spot was where he left the car. Who knows, watch the ending scene in that movie when they are driving back and imagine how funny it would have been if they would have hit the russian trying to get across the street or if the saw him lying dead. Oh and my favorite aspect in this show is that this is the first show where bobby baccala has a serious role and spends a lot of one on one time with Tony. Bobby is one of my favorite characters in the entire show.

in my opinion, i think the russian survived by climbing a tree and then leaving the forest with paulie's car. i think david chase had some ideas for the consequences of that incident for later episodes - like the russians going after tony's crew but unfortunately the series ended earlier. he couldnt have possibly missed that one. he was priming it up for a future fight off with the russians.
