Really hard to think of top five favourite. lol. Could probably come up with five least favourite. Mainly pointless Jack and Kate episodes like "Tale of Two Cities." I have to say I re-watch the whole thing before each new season. (I have no life. lol)

its not easy to pick 5 favourites because there are 99 very good eps.
but among my faves are the first couple in season 2 the end of season 2 and end of season 3 i could watch them over and over just awesome.

I don't know about top five, but these are my favorites. (I'm probably forgetting some awesome ones)

Walkabout
Deux ex Machina
The Man Behind the Curtain
The Constant
Ji Yeon

I'm partial to Locke episodes.

Agreed, those are probably my favorite episodes too except maybe without 'the man behind the curtain'.
Go Locke.

First off, phenomenal topic. The following are listed below in no specific order...

Top Five Episodes of LOST:

- Walkabout
(Arguably the best episode of early LOST, cements Locke as the spiritual leader, first instance of when suprises were truly surprising and when a cliffhanger truly was a cliffhanger)

- Not In Portland
(Performed the miracle of turning a shady, unappealing character into the strongest female lead in LOST, introduced us to the legendary Richard Alpert, culminated the most suspenseful sequence in the escape from Hydra Island--the first and only time I believed that Sawyer could actually be killed off)

- Through the Looking Glass
(The best finale LOST has ever produced, the final battle between the Others and the Survivors that started with Ethan and Goodwin's infiltration and ended with a DHARMA van to the face, set up the macrocosm of what the series would represent overall, took us through a whole different perspective of time)

- The Constant
(An achievement in storytelling that confounds us at first, makes us question the validity of the show in frustration, and ultimately makes so much sense that we feel like idiots for not catching on sooner; it highlights the greatest, most pure love on LOST: Penny and Desmond)

- The Incident, Pt. 1 & 2
(Best episode of Season 5, and most emotionally charged, spine-tingling episode since I can't remember when; for the first time in a while, the dialogue felt improvised as if these people were acting based on how they felt and what they were going through; it was for lack of better word, REAL).

Top Five Unsung Episodes of LOST

- Raised by Another
(Most important Claire episode, excellent early Ethan, emphasis on fate vs. free will, drastically more important now that Claire has gone off the LOST radar)

- Adrift
(Michael's best episode, excellent early Desmond, strong character development vis-a-vis Michael and Sawyer, Kate and Locke; makes us feel uncomfortable in our voyeuristic early views of the Swan; the epitome of DHARMA nostalgia and hatch-exploration)

- The Other 48 Days
(First telling of Sept. 22, 2004 from another perspective: that of the Tail-Section survivors who truly are the unsung heroes of LOST; the suffering of Bernard, the humanity of Ana Lucia, the humility of Eko, and the creation of another great Other: Goodwin; the montage at the end culminating in Shannon's death is breathtaking)

- Greatest Hits
(Took a decaying main character and reminded us all of why we fell in love with him in the first place, the greatest singular lead-up to a LOST finale ever, shows Ben's dwindling prowess amongst the Others for the first time)

- Namaste
(Changed the game for the 5th season, solid character study on how far we all have come and who is driven by what, first analysis of period time travel, long awaited contemporary viewings of Pierre Chang and Radzinsky)

Discuss and enjoy.
