How I Met Your Mother is a love story in reverse told by Ted Mosby (voiced by Bob Saget), to his uninterested son and daughter in 2030 about how he met their mother. The story itself is set in 2005 with Ted (Josh Radnor) as a single, 27-year-old architect living in New York with his two best friends from college, Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan) who get engaged when the story starts. Ted is prompted by this to search for his soul mate, a sentiment that inspires nausea in Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), self-proclaimed best friend of Ted, womanizer, and corporate suit who introduces Ted to Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) with the now classic line, "Hi, have you met Ted?"
