The long awaited (I wish) update to the Heroes FAQ that hopefully someone will read and find useful
I think I got everything listed in the last thread and included it in here but if not as usual please post with any additional questions and requests and I'll try and answer them and add them in
This update as was requested last time includes all the questions indented to differentiate between them and the answers

Some of these answers are only theories and should not be taken as the exact truth
Some of these answers will divulge secrets and spoilers
First season theories discounted by knowledge from the second season will still be included in the first season section
The first post is the first season and the second post is the second season
The third post is a list of empowered characters in three sections the first is first season characters, the second is characters unique to second season, and the third is characters unique to the graphic novels

What is Peter Petrelli's ability?

Peter has an ability called Empathic Mimicry. He can channel and copy any other enhanced human being's power.

Can Peter use an ability he has shown without the owner around?

Initially no, although later on he will begin to gain control over these powers.

What are all the powers Peter has shown?

Visionary dreams, Flight, Space-time manipulation, Precognition, Rapid cell regeneration, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Invisibility, Induced Radioactivity, Super Strength. Although he hasn't shown them, he has Persuasion from Eden and Sylar's other abilities although he has only used Telekinesis.

Where does Peter's scar come from?

The scar shown in Five Years Gone has unknown origins. He is shown in the graphic novels to have it one year after the explosion so he had to get it from before that. Theories claim that he may have come by it in the explosion, an attack by a super power, some sort of super infection. Thoughts that he had it in the future because he hadn't met Claire is dead wrong. In the future Claire is alive, because Hiro went back in time to tell Peter to save her, so he met her, thus she lived, thus he could have healed it. So he obviously there is some reason he hasn't healed the scar. A theory was that when he exploded he kept the scar as reminder of the people he killed.

Where does Peter get his dream power from?

While we don't know exactly popular theories include he got it from Charles Deveaux, Angela Petrelli, or Arthur Petrelli.

What is Sylar's ability?

His original power is known as Intuitive Aptitude. He can analyze something, understand how it works, and adapt to it. His main use of this is to analyze the brains of super powered individuals to gain their abilities.

How does Sylar gain the abilities exactly?

We don't yet know. All we know is that Sylar needs the brains whole and intact.

What does Sylar do with the brains?

We don't know that yet either. There is thought that he eats the brains, but is a largely obscured and shady part. Unfortunately that leaves us without an idea as to what he does with them.

Does that mean Sylar does not have Eden's Persuasion ability?

Unless Sylar is yelling in absolute joy thats exactly what it means.

But Sylar did the funny voice thing, like Eden would when she used her power, twice.

The writers have stated that the voice effect was for added effect only and not an illustration of any power. The same effect has been used on Peter which was also not attributed to Eden's Persuasion power although Peter does have the ability.

What powers does Sylar have?

We currently are unsure of all of Sylar's powers, but we do know he has Telekinesis (Brian Davis), Cryokinesis (Unknown), Enhanced Memory (Charlie Andrews), Liquefaction (Zane Taylor), Enhanced Hearing (Dale Smither), Precognition (Isaac Mendes), Induced Radioactivity (Ted Sprague). In addition to these he has an unknown number more at least three or four.

What kind of name is Sylar?

A watch. Sylar is an alias he took from a watch when he met Brian Davis. His real name is Gabriel Gray, an adopted watchmaker from Queens, New York.

How does Sylar keep not dying? Does he have tissue regeneration?

He does not have any healing power otherwise he would not need Claire. Lets start with him falling in Homecoming, he for one lands on Peter breaking his fall and likely uses Telekinesis to help break his fall. It is believed that he has read the medical textbooks in his apartment and remembering them using his Enhanced Memory he has learned specialized uses of Telekinesis to keep himself alive including stop or slowing bullets, breaking his fall, and possibly even sealing holes in his body.

Who is the Haitian?

The Haitian is a character played by Jimmy Jean-Louis. Originally thought to be mute it turns out he just doesn't speak much. According to the graphic novels he comes from Haiti and can speak French as well as English. So far he does not have a name and is referred to in the show and by fans just as the Haitian.

What is the Haitian's power?

He can remove a person's memories. He also seems to have some form of ability blocking power. This does not seem to be a impenetrable power ;however, as Nathan and Peter have demonstrated various powers in escape of the Haitian and his partner.

Why?

We don't know (echo?). Theories include the people who he works for (not the company) told him to (This is mainly in connection with Nathan flying away), he cannot block certain powers or only certain powers (how the power works in the brain), he has to concentrate to stop powers, he is a power inhibitor not stopper, he has to be within a certain distance of the user (or in some cases the target [telepathy])

Who does the Haitian work for?

On the surface he works for the Company as Bennet's partner. However, it would seem he takes orders from Angela Petrelli that are more important than the Company's, hence the theory that he let Nathan fly away.

Why doesn't the Haitian take Claire's memory?

Presumably because Angela Petrelli told him not to.

When Hiro went back in time to save Charlie didn't she die of a blood clot?

No. Charlie still dies because Sylar kills her. In the graphic novel, Road Kill, we see Sylar memorize a truckers manual in a few seconds and then be able to drive the truck in addition to him actually stating that he took her brain and power.

Who is Jessica?

Jessica is Niki's dead sister. It is currently unknown whether or not she has a power. She was killed at a young age by her drunken father. She seems to have control over Niki somehow, it is unknown whether this is the real Jessica or a mental defect. She Niki's Power for more info.

What is Niki's power?

While there is the thought that it may be some form of multiple personality channeling power and that Jessica is actually a separate entity that can take over her body and has Super Strength. However the other, arguably more popular theory is that it is simply Super Strength power, and that Jessica is a conflicting personality stemming from a mental disorder or that Jessica is truly her dead sister that somehow made the jump into Niki's head.

What is Micah's power?

Micah has Technopathy, the ability to control and manipulate electronic devices. This seems to include fixing broken devices. It is unknown the extent of this fixing ability. He currently seems to require contact with the device for his power to work.

Why didn't DL phase through Linderman's bullet?

Well DL jumped in front of Niki to take the bullet and save her. Generally it is difficult to take a bullet for someone if you let the bullet go right through you and hit them. I detect failure.

So why didn't DL phase him and Niki through the bullet?

You have to remember DL manifested this power maybe a couple months ago. This is a fairly new thing for him. The impulse to take the bullet was a mere reflex he likely didn't think of his power. This is a human reaction had he grown up with his power or had even six months or a year he may have developed this new reflex but that is not the case.

What is Matt's power?

Matt is Telepathic. He can the minds of other people. At first he has difficulty controlling this power and constantly is bombarded with the thoughts of others; however, like other heroes over the course of the season he gains control of his power and uses his power less unwittingly and more by his own choosing.

What is the difference between Telepathy and Telekinesis, they have Tele in them, right?

They both may have tele in them but they are two completely different powers. Telepathy is the ability to read a persons mind while Telekinesis is the ability to move things with one's mind.

Who or what is the HRG?

HRG stands for Horn Rimmed Glasses. The HRG is Claire Bennet's father and named for the horn rimmed glasses that Claire picked out for him and he always wears.

What is Mr. Bennet's first name?

If you must know in the final episode of the first season, Bennet revealed his first name to be Noah.

What is Mohinder's power?

Mohinder doesn't seem to have a power and it is unlikely that he will develop a power.

Who is the kid with the soccer ball in Mohinder's visions?

His name is Sanjog Iyer. He has the power of Dream Manipulation. He seems to be able to enter the dreams of people who need help and show them what they need.

What is wrong with Molly?

Molly has a strange virus that is killing her cells and has even rendered her unable to use her ability. It turns out it is the same virus that killed Mohinder's sister Shanti and the anti-bodies in Mohinder's blood act as a cure to the virus.

What happened to Hana Gittelman?

Hana appeared briefly in the show itself but she was made to star in the graphic novels and has the most appearance in graphic novels of all characters.

What is Hana's power?

She can send and receive digital transmissions such as emails and text messages.

Where is Hana now?

Hana now lives in the internet. After Matt, Ted, and Bennet head to take out the Walker Tracking System, Hana boards a spaceship and when she fails to send it signals to destroy itself and it infects her with a virus she then jumps on the Company's tracking satellite and rides it into the atmosphere destroying it and killing herself. However, before she dies she somehow projects her consciousness onto the internet where she now exists. For a more detailed understanding read The Death of Hana Gittelman issues 33 and 34.

What is Angela Petrelli's power?

It is implied that Angela has a power unfortunately we don't know for sure what it is yet. One theory is that she has the dream visions. Another theory is that she has the power to control people similar to Eden without the voice effect.

What is the Company?

The Company was as far as we can tell founded by Mr. Linderman, Kaito Nakamura, Angela Petrelli, Charles Deveaux, and friends. The Company seems to have been started to help other super powered people as far as we can decrypt Linderman's comments. Linderman is funding the Company. The Company is using the Primatech Paper Company as a front for hiding their operations and moving men and supplies around the country. It is not affiliated with the government.

Who works for the Company?

Linderman runs the Company. Kaito evidently had some power over the Company although speculation is they have since had a falling out as Kaito helps train his son, Hiro, to fight the bomb. Angela Petrelli presumably helped found the Company, her power over the Haitian may or may not stem from a position within the Company. Thompson was a boss of the Company, he seems to have a decent amount of power within the Company having power over Bennet and other agents. It is unknown how far up the chain he is. Bennet is an agent of the Company, he is one of the unpowered agents. All pairs of agents include one powered and one unpowered. Haram is another of the unpowered agents. Claude is one of the powered agents working with Haram until his retirement and later Bennet until Claude is forced into hiding. The Haitian works for the Company and Angela Petrelli. Candice Willmer is another of the powered agents who appears after the Haitian goes rogue.

In Peter's vision he explodes during the day but in the show he explodes at night. How could the writers screw up this badly?

They didn't. Peter's visions are not prophetic but merely representative of the truth or sometimes not at all close to accurate and actually just some sort of mental trigger. Recall he sees Isaac and Simone among those in New York in the vision however they die before the bomb.

When Hiro travels to the future though he sees the bomb go off during the day.

While we can't confirm the idea, belief is that it helps to show that the future is not set in stone. Similar to the location of the explosion shows the future is not set in stone.

Doesn't this mean that Isaac's painting was wrong?

Yes and no. Isaac's paintings haven't always been exactly right. There is a massive explosion but it doesn't take place in the middle of the New York. The painting of Hiro versus the Dinosaur isn't exactly accurate as well, the dinosaur he faces is merely a skeleton rather than a fully skinned monster and rather than the unsheathed, shining sword belonging to Takezo Kensei however the one that Hiro has is actually the sheathed fake sword. The paintings seem to be more representative of the future. More accurate than Peter's visions but never 100% true.

Why does Peter have the vision of Charles in the final episode?

Likely the same reason Mohinder is visited by Sanjog. Peter needs help and he finds Charles a comforting figure. It is also possible since we do not know who Peter received the vision power from it could be Charles and so he visits him for help.

What does the eclipse mean?

Originally the eclipse was intended as a global event that connected all the heroes across the globe, although it has since been hinted at that eclipse has some sort of greater meaning by creator Tim Kring.

What is the symbol?

According to Ando the symbol or helix is a combination of two Japanese characters meaning godsend and great power and combining to mean “god sent great power” . It can seen on the Haitian's necklace, Takezo's sword, and hidden in numerous scenes. It is unknown exactly how it is connected with the evolved humans but it would seem to be important.

Why do we see cockroaches everywhere?

Cockroaches are considered the peak of evolution. Able to withstand nuclear radiation and to live for weeks without their heads they may be the perfect life form. They are also a representative symbol for Sylar who through continuous acquisition of powers is working towards becoming the perfect life form which seems to be his goal; however, it is important not to mistake this. Sylar does not become a cockroach nor can he. He does not have any shape shifting power.

What are the graphic novels?

The graphic novels are a series of comics released on the NBC Heroes site. There are 73 novels as of now. They are a continuation of the Heroes story with tales explaining character, story, and other information on the Heroes world.

When are novels released?

A new chapter is released every Tuesday.

What is Heroes 360?

In addition to the show and the graphic novels several sites were established to expand the Heroes world even further. The first was the Primatech site. By signing up to this site you eventually gained access to Hana's site. Since then more sites have gone up featuring different characters and different aspects of the show. As of this point there are the Primatech site, Hana's blog, Hiro's blog, Nathan's campaign site, Mohinder's site, the Corinthian Casino site (Linderman's casino's site), Yamagato Industries site, and one of a man named Brian who worked on Linderman's voting system.

What happened to Peter's memory?

In Four Months Ago we see Peter had his memory taken by Haitian

Where did Peter get his lightning power?

In Four Months Ago we see Peter gains the ability from Elle, the American girl who killed Ricky.

What is going on in the future when Peter gets there?

Pretty well everyone there has died. The Shanti Virus makes the jump to the normal human population and eradicates 93% of the human population.

Why can't Sylar use any of his powers?

In Powerless it is revealed he has a strain of the Shanti Virus, in fact Mohinder comments on how it is the same strain that Niki has so the Company must have injected him.

What is going on with Matt's power?

He has learned more advanced uses of his power. In Fight or Flight we see him project thoughts into Nathan's mind, in Out of Time we see him actually summon Maury into a nightmare and trap him there, and in Cautionary Tales we see him actually start commanding people to do things.

What is Monica's power?

Muscle Mimicry. She can replicate any action she sees someone do with the apparent ability to adapt it to her current situation. So far she has been seen cutting tomato roses, pulling the 619 (the wrestling kick), playing the piano well, mastering kung fu moves, double dutch jumping, balance beam acrobatics, and in Truth & Consequences she uses her ability to break into a house to grab Micah's bag.

Why is Micah left with Monica in New Orleans?

Presumably it is while Niki goes to work for the Company.

Why is Niki with the Company?

It seems she wants help with Jessica, evidently Jessica is not under control like previously thought. She may be remaining with the Company as repayment for what they have done with her. It is unknown if the procedure eliminated Jessica, allowed Niki to control Jessica, or was unsuccessful all together is unknown.

Who is Gina?

Gina is what Niki called herself when she ran away to LA as a young woman. She is the second personality that Niki has manifested.

What happened to DL?

He is dead. In Kindreds we see Niki and Micah visit DL's grave.

How did DL die?

After barely surviving the gunshot wound from Linderman at the end of Season 1 we see DL killed by a man at a nightclub in LA in Four Months Ago

How does Nathan survive the explosion?

In Four Months Ago we see Peter push himself away from Nathan and after the explosion which Nathan was hit by Peter catches him and delivers him to the hospital. Nathan however remains in critical condition, barely surviving, until Peter and Adam show up and inject Nathan with some of Adam's blood which causes Nathan to instantly regenerate from his extensive wounds.

What is Maya's power?

She has the ability to spread a deadly virus. When doing so her eyes go black and it appears that she begins to cry black tears and her victims assume the same state.

How does Maya's power work?

Originally thought that Maya's power worked only when separated from Alejandro, it has since been shown that it occurred whenever she becomes extremely distraught, such as at the border or when Sylar told them about Derrick.

Why are Maya and Alejandro going to New York wouldn't this seem to be a bad idea?

They are going to New York to find Chandra Suresh, whose book, Activating Evolution, they found in Spanish, and they hope that he may be able to help them control Maya's power so that she can stop using it and killing people.

What is Alejandro's power?

At first it was thought that Alejandro's ability was to reverse Maya's power to return her to normal and bring the infected back to life, assuming this is done quickly enough. Although, in Truth & Consequences we see Maya forced to undo her power on her own to save Sylar's life (too bad). It is unknown whether he can simply absorb the toxins that Maya emits or whether he can cure other diseases.

Kensei is English what happened?

Presumably nothing. It is possible that nothing has changed yet although with Hiro's actions in “The Line” this timeline may have radically changed. However, Hiro was orchestrating things as the legends said that Kensei did things.

Kensei has a power doesn't he?

You guessed it. Kensei has a regenerative power similar to Claire's.

Who is Adam Monroe?

Adam Monroe is the present name that Takezo Kensei goes by. According to Bob he brought together the Original Group of 12 and formed the Company. He became too powerful however and developed a god complex, speaking of holocausts and human eradication. Fearing him the Group of 12 locked him away.

Why is Adam locked up?

In 1977 Adam tries to unleash the Shanti Virus Strain 138 but is barely stopped by Victoria Pratt and the Company. Fearing Adam's resolve and aims the Company locks him up for 30 years until he and Peter escaped.

Why is Adam trying to release the virus?

According to Angela Petrelli in Powerless, Adam after 400 years decided the world was worth saving and that instead to use the Shanti Virus Strain-138 to wipe the world clean and restart. 7% of the population would survive the virus and of course Adam's power of healing itself would make him one of the survivors.

What is Elle's power?

She has the ability to control and create bolts of electricity

Who is Elle speaking to in Fight or Flight?

Her father Bob.

What will happen to Caitlin?

Who knows, but for now she is stuck in the future or a future. It is possible that Peter will try to go back for her but it is possible she may just disappear stuck in a future which hopefully will not come true.

How will stopping the virus save Caitlin?

That is an excellent question and I wish I knew. It seems that by stopping the virus outbreak would eliminate that timeline and thus delete Caitlin from existence or something, so where Peter's logic in this matter is beyond me I guess.

What is Noah doing in the Ukraine?

The Haitian came to him with rumors of the paintings he was looking for were there.

What are on the paintings?

They are a series of eight paintings created by Isaac Mendez just before his death. The first shows Kaito Nakamura lying dead in the alley and eighth shows Noah Bennet lying dead with a bullet through his eye and Claire kissing someone in the background. The rest were found in a warehouse next to where Noah and Ivan captured the Liquid Man. To see the paintings go to http://heroeswiki.com/Isaac%27s_paintings and find the season 2 paintings. Aside from the first and the last it is unknown what their exact order is or what they all mean.

Why does Peter pry open the safe door in Powerless. Why doesn't he just phase through the door?

Adam tells Peter to open it when Peter asks what to do first off. If Peter had phased through the door he likely would have destroyed the virus which is the opposite of what Adam is trying to achieve.

Who is Ivan?

He is Claude and Noah's teacher. This is further revealed in graphic novel issue 57 Team Building Exercise, where Ivan takes Noah on his first mission as a spectator although Noah takes over the mission and shows Ivan and Maarten how to trap the Liquid Man.

What has happened to Molly?

When trying to find Matt's dad he saw her looking for him. She dropped into a coma and has been trapped within her mind since then. This forces Matt to go after his father.

Who is the Nightmare Man?

His name is Maury Parkman, Matt's father.

What is Maury's power?

According to Maury himself his power started out as mere telepathy, which as he began to understand it expand. Now he can create nightmares from people's worst fears, possibly read minds, and he has some form of mental defense that prevented Matt from reading his mind. We don't know exactly how his power relates to him being able to “see” Molly or how his power affected her. It is probably a combination of his mental defense and his nightmare power.

Who kills Kaito?

In Out of Time Bob seems to say that Maury was the killer, however in Cautionary Tales Hiro stops time and sees Adam is the real killer.

What is the significance of the photo of twelve people that is often referenced and seen in the second season?

This is the only known photograph of all 12 founding members of the Company. The ranks of which include Angela Petrelli, Arthur Petrelli, Charles Deveaux, Daniel Linderman, Victoria Pratt, Maury Parkman, Robert (Bob) Bishop, Kaito Nakamura, and four others, three of whom are identified by Matt in Cautionary Tales but are never seen Carlos Mendez, Harry Fletcher, and Paula Gramble leaving one woman unidentified. Of them only Angela and Bob remain alive, according to Matt's photo. The photo appears to have been taken on the roof of the Deveaux building. On another note writers Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski had this to say about the photo, “I think the more interesting question that no one has asked is why did they gather to meet on the Deveaux roof that night? What was so important that they had to get together? We'll let you stew on that.”

Who is the man in the picture of the Company founders who isn't looking at the camera?

His name is Arthur Petrelli, he is Peter and Nathan's father and husband to Angela Petrelli. Presumably he has a power however it has yet to be revealed what his power is if he has one.

Why isn't Arthur looking at the camera though?

There doesn't seem to be much reason to it at the moment. Some have suggested it is foreshadowing to the fact that he is not dead as was stated by Angela Petrelli and others in the first season. I am of the opinion that there is some other extraneous circumstance that we are as of yet unaware of, that occurred at the event photographed.

The vial that Bob is holding, what is in it?

It is a mutated strain of the Shanti Virus. It is not by any means a cure. Bob wants Mohinder to inject Monica with it to see how it will affect her powers and if it can still be cured by Mohinder's blood. Mohinder however refuses to take away Monica's powers.

Why does Bob want to experiment with taking away people's powers?

He says it is because there are certain people with powers that are too dangerous like Sylar and Adam. They need some way to remove these people's powers like the Shanti virus.

What is the Pandora's Box that Angela refers to at the end of Powerless?

While we can't be sure it is likely to be some kind of retribution on the Company. Possibly this refers to Peter coming after the Company.

What is going on with the pictures with the symbol drawn on them?

They are death notices. The people with the helix drawn across their face will be killed within 24 hours.

Who has received these death notes?

Kaito who was killed, Angela still alive, Maury dead, and Bob still alive although Bob's was found in Maury's apartment. Another one was left on Victoria's body after Adam killed her. All were delivered by Adam although he only killed Kaito.

What is the difference between Adam's power and Claire's power?

Not a lot it would appear. However, Adam claims he cannot heal from a head wound although Claire has. Adam has on occasion seemed to heal faster than Claire has been able to.

What is the difference between West's power and Nathan's power?

Unlike Claire and Adam, West's and Nathan's powers seem identical.

Are Niki and Nathan dead?

This is another unknown. While both appear to be in near death experiences we can't be sure if either or both are dead. This was likely intentional considering at the time of strike it hadn't been decided whether either was dead. In an interview Tim Kring actually stated that he himself didn't know if either or both were dead because the creative team hadn't decided yet.

When will Volume 3 Villains air?

Regrettably due to the Writers Strike the new volume will air sometime in September as part of Season 3. Watch the pinned topics for more info, as soon as we have a specific date we will let you all know there.

Okay, I have an idea as to why Peter has the scar in the future, if anyone wants some sort of explanation on the matter.

Now, Hiro is able to manipulate time and space - enabling him to freeze, slow, reverse, or speed up time around him as well as move space around him as if it were on a conveyor belt, while he himself remains unmoved and unaffected (this is how he teleports, as opposed to breaking his body down into atoms, then re-senquencing the atoms to create himself in another location).

A theory which would explain how this works, is that Hiro exists separate from the space-time continuum, which is enforced by the fact that Peter is not affected by Hiro's ability to manipulate time. Seeing as because Peter's body mimics the abilities of those around him, because he met Hiro, he too exists outside of the space-time continuum.

What does this mean for Hiro and Peter, then?

After Hiro returns from the past to his 'present', he meets his past self in Isaac's loft. When he talks with Hiro, it's obvious that he doesn't know what happens in the 'new' timeline. The one that is created when he told Peter to save Claire.

Proof of this is that he asks Hiro two questions - "Did Peter save Claire?" and "Did you stab Sylar?" If Hiro was in fact bound to the space-time continuum, his past would have been altered by the changing of the timelne - but obviously it wasn't, as he did not know whether anything had changed in his world.

Instead, the world around him was changed without he, himself being affected.

If Peter, also, exists outside of the space-time continuum, wouldn't it make sense then that he wasn't affected, either, by the new timeline? If this is true, then he never actually met Claire. She was saved by Peter, yes. But not the Peter of the future, but rather, the Peter of the past.

Therefore, future Peter would not have any memory of Claire, nor would he have her powers.

I hope that was clear. 0o

question about the graphic novels:
are they telling what will happen with Heroes (the serie)? or are the novel in parallel and do not talk about the explosion?

What is the power of Peter and Nathan father?
I think Angela does not have any power.... but... maybe their father did.
What was Charles devaux Power? never get it.

The graphic novels are basically the side-story of the TV series. They are important in their own way.

Arthur Petrelli, Nathan and Peter's father, it is unknown what his ability was, assuming he had one. It is also unknown if Angela has an ability, but it definitely does appear she has one. It's also unknown about Charles, but again it does appear he had an ability as well.

Yeah while we do not currently know for sure whether or not Arthur Petrelli, Peter and Nathan's father, had a power and if so what it is, I firmly believe that he did
If you head into the blogs section of this site and trace back to the second full page of articles you can find a piece by me entitled Mr. Petrelli which summarizes much of the known knowledge from the Heroes Universe on Arthur including statements which I believe support the belief that Arthur had a power
Its not complete I forgot a few things but contains a sizable amount of info for anyone who is looking for it
