If you watch the commentary for Chosen, Joss says that he originally wanted to kill off Xander, but that the more he thought about it, he realized that fans of the show would never forgive him for killing one of the original four (Buffy, Willow, Xander, & Giles), so he decided to kill Anya instead.

I voted for the first time Buffy died. I can remember watching it on TV & not even realizing that she died until Xander showed up & actually said out loud that she died. Lame...

I gotta say that Buffys second death was pretty lame, i know she gave up her own life to save her sister and the world, and what she went through after (being pulled out of heaven) gave Sarah to expand her character more and theres no way the 6th series would have been as good as it was without Buffy going through all those changes, but ending the series like that just to bring her back again seemed pointless.

I voted Kendra, because that had almost no imput to the storyline at all. It just got her out of the way so we could get a more interesting slayer (Kendra, though very pretty, was such a DULL charactor!)

But I think Anya should have been in the poll. She was one of my favourites and they hardly even noticed her death.

At least killing of one of the original four would made more of an impact though, i love Anya she was one of my favourite charaters and spike - they just didn't seem to care they had died, i can understand them not feeling to upset about Spike, but come on ANYA?!

That's totally covered under another discussion post, the end of the slayer line. Tara should be on here, and anya. Johnathan died when he conceptually should have, and Jenny's death was tragic, but necessary to plot. Kendra's death was lame so I picked her, but go dying so we could have faith. We all knew that ben would have to be killed to defeat glory, and that it would have to be a messy but abrupt human death (I don't even know why that's on the list).
and when buffy died the first time? not lame, prophecy people, prophecy. and to recover somehow from telling people all season that the main character of the show is going to die.
