I recently went on a buffy binge and watched all the seasons. I noticed something that kinda bugs me..

Buffy was the only slayer at one point,
then she dies in season one...
Kendra is called, but Buffy comes back to life...
2 slayers....
Kendra is killed, Faith is called...
still, 2 slayers....
Buffy dies....
Buffy comes back to life...
but, Faith and Buffy are still the only slayers (excluding potentials.)

So, my question is...why wasn't another slayer called when Buffy died the second time ? Did I miss something ?

When Buffy died the 2nd time Faith was still a slayer and the only slayer. So there was no need for another slayer to be called. But when Kendra died Faith was called because Buffy was techincally dead and no longer the active slayer.

But didnt faith die when Buffy stabbed her with the mayor, they only have to die for a second to become inactive as the slayer, so their is or should be another slayer running around.

oh, ya that makes sense! so wouldn't thatmean that technically buffy isn't a slayer at all and that faith is the only one??
hah i overthink too much...

Actually Megan I was thinking the same thing about that last night. And as far as the active/inactive deal, then Buffy was technically inactive from the end of Season 1 is my next question?

You'd think so...if that's the reason why another slayer wasn't called the second time buffy died... But if that's the case, wouldn't/shouldn't have buffy lost her slayer power???

hmm..maybe it's just one of those things we're not supposed to really notice...lol

That's a pretty reasonable question, but the explanation is probably that once you get the slayer strenght, you don't lose it no matter what. I mean, if there could be only one person with slayer power, then the season 7 finale couldn't have happened...

Also gotta think... how hard would it be to know about all the things that go bump in the night & not have the strength to fight them off anymore. I'm sure there'd be lots of demons still wanting to kill Buffy/any inactive slayer, whether they had powers or not. Definitely wouldn't settle well with me.

ok heres the low down:

When buffy drowned and died in season one she activated the next slayer, doing so Buffy is no longer apart of the slayer line.
BUT then buffy was "ressurected" by xander, hence 2 slayers.
BUT the reason why buffy still has here abilities is because even though she isnt apart of the slayer line she is still linked to the slayer magics, and she always will be.
saying that however that does not make her the active slayer and the individual to carry the slayer magics/line with her, Kendra now has that responsibility.
but oops! Kendra was killed, and Faith was called. Making Faith the "active" slayer. However Faith never assumed the responsibility of being "the chosen one" for long. Buffy because of her good heart & ext. still considered herself responsibile for protecting the world. Even though she could hv totally said "screw u guys im going to disneyland!"

FAITH is THE SLAYER tecnically. She is the active slayer with the recent "calling" and only her death will call upon the next slayer.
